Black Soapstone This imported stone is one of the harder soapstones.
It polishes to a pitch or ebony black and is very pure
and fun to carve. Not to be confused with the lighter
black soapstone from Virginia.

Brazilian
Soapstone This imported stone is very, very soft; its color
ranges from light to dark tan. It is easily carved and
polished, but due to its softness it can also bruise.
Sea Mist Green Soapstone This domestic stone is from the Midwest US. It is
soft and light green in color. There are some striations
and layering but not noticeable. Easy to work on, this
is a great beginner’s stone.
Gala Printed Soapstone Like the Gala Coke Soapstone, this is a harder
soapstone; unlike the Gala Coke, its colors are softer
and range from grey to pink. There is a texture which
gives the stone a nice feel, but will have impact on the
carving.
