With sculptor and teacher "Shellspen Sean" (Sean Colson). Sean Colson, has been a sculptor since the mid 1960’s, and begin bronze casting with his father in 1974, at Colson School of Art. The first art casting sculpture foundry in Sarasota, Florida. Sean has run Shellspen Int. Inc. a sculpture supply business for artists casting bronze sculpture, to teaching bronze casting, since 1979. Sean’s experience in Bronze casting has been for the last 36 years.

Are you a painter and/or illustrator? That always had an interest in how to make your paintings/illustrations 3-D? This is your oppruntunity to learn how to do this with "Direct Wax" sculpting. Let Shellspen Sean teach you how to sculpt your paintings & illustrations into 3-D bronze sculptures.

Sean is teaching classes & workshops on Bronze casting, and will share his years of professional experience with students on techniques, tips, and styles of Sculpture casting. Students will work hands on, and learn how to sculpt a direct wax and have their sculpture and/or jewelry pendant cast in bronze.

NEW WORKSHOPS:

Are you from out of town? We offer a 5 day individual workshop including lodging & meals for $ 1500.00 (for one person) this workshop teaches you Direct wax sculpting, and takes you through the steps of the Shellspen lost-wax, ceramic shell process of casting your sculpture in bronze up to 7 lbs to a rough finish (feeding gates cut off & sculpture sandblasted)! If you desire for your sculpture to be refined after casting to a finer detail and patina, this can take 1 to 3 days at $ 300.00 extra a day, depending on the detail of the work. You will learn all the steps of the process, plus learn how to build your own Metal casting set up. An added feature to this mini-sculpture workshop vacation, you have free access to the Ferry boat taking you to the Private Beach in Venice, Florida. So it's a great opportunity to learn and expand your art, plus visit a beautiful private beach! Interested? Contact us and we will send you more info. and discuss a date for your workshop. All applicants are screened for eligibility.

Do you have a School, Art Center, or group that would like to learn this process? We teach from Jewelry to Monumental size of bronze casting with the Shellspen lost-wax, ceramic shell process. We can come to you in the USA or Internationally with our portable set-up. We can custom make a class to fit your needs, as well as lectures and demo's on the process.

Any classes or workshops that are more than just direct wax sculpting, and involve working around a metal art casting set-up and/or power tools. A disclaimer has to signed first by the student stating they will follow all safety precautions, wear all safety gear and work at their own risk.

There also is a Motel close by if the workshop is for two people that rents for $ 307.00 a week for 2 people (summer rates), and is walking distance to the beach (as long as the beach is still good, and hopefully the oil spill does not come here). However if two students take the workshop, the price is $ 1800.00 but does not include the lodging and complete meals (as they will stay at the motel), but each student can cast a piece up to 7 lbs to a rough finish (feeding gates cut off & sandblasted)! If you desire for your sculpture to be refined after casting to a finer detail and patina, this can take 1 to 3 days at $ 360.00 extra a day. And we will have a couple of dinners included with this workshop for 2 people.
